History

Cineworld traces its roots back in the year 1995 when Steve Wiener envisioned a welcoming contemporary theatre for all families and friends who are movie enthusiasts. Mr. Wiener built Cineworld with the vision of becoming the favorite cinema chain across different cities and countries.

In 2012, Cineworld Group plc acquired the Picturehouse chain of cinemas, which increased their reach of audience. This acquisition added 21 more cinema theatre locations into its business portfolio.

In 2014, Cineworld further expanded and acquired Cinema City. With this completed acquisition, Cineworld became the second largest cinema business in Europe in terms of the number of screens it owned. Eventually, Cineworld also combined with Cinema City International, making it possible to expand the movie theatre business into international regions such as Poland, Israel, Hungary, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia.

Today, the Cineworld Group plc has 217 theatres. Among those theatres, there are a total of 2,000 fully digital screens catering to various customers every day. Through the years, Cineworld has successfully established itself as a remarkable movie theatre destination for all.

Reviews

Cineworld theatres have their own respective retail areas where customers can buy food and drinks such as popcorn, nachos and hotdogs. Baskin and Robbins and Starbucks are just a few concessionaires located in these theatres.

In terms of movie technology, Cineworld offers IMAX screens in select theatres. There is however an internal business initiative to eventually switch to massive 4DX theatres, which are also called “super screens”.

4DX technology is considered to be one of the biggest technological innovations in the movie theatre industry. It was developed in South Korea and was eventually adopted by a lot of American film studios.

Cineworld theatres with the 4DX technology will feature innovative simulation seats that integrate special effects for simulations of wind, lightning, rain, etc. All of these special effects will be in sync with the live actions happening on the movie screen.

With the 4DX technology integrated in Cineworld theatres, viewers can expect an exhilarating rollercoaster-like movie experience. This technology definitely surpasses 3D and it is an experience you cannot miss out on.

Through the years, Cineworld has built a successful movie theatre company with technologies that make it unique amongst its competitors. In the coming years, more innovative ideas will take its stage as Cineworld continues to improve and expand.
