History
Ben Marcus found the Marcus Theatres in 1935. He opened a movie theater in Ripon, Wisconsin, which would be the start of the company’s growth to success. In 1949, the company opened their first drive-in movie theater.
By 1958, Marcus Theatres was operating in 36 different locations and had 900 employees. Four years after, Ben Marcus buys The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee. The business merges under Marcus Corporation in 1972, with two different divisions: Marcus Theatres and Marcus Hotels and Resorts.
The Marcus Corporation has been passed onto the next generations. Ben’s son, Stephen, acts as the chairman, while Stephen’s son, Gregory, is the President and Chief Executive Officer. The corporation, however, is still listed as a publicly held company.
A reputation for excellence has been the company’s goal since its founding in 1935. The Marcus Corporation, with its vision of “People Pleasing People”, aims to provide moviegoers and hotel visitors with top-notch film quality and exceptional service.
