History
Founded by Brian Schultz in 1993, SMG has a very rough start since they only had rights to movies that are already decreasing in popularity and are to be released on video. They only have one movie theatre and it was very difficult to encourage people who are not willing to accept change.
Many studios are reluctant to give them first-run movies since they were such a small movie theatre back then. Things changed when Schultz acquired a second location and a bigger cinema so he could convince various studios to give them new movies.
Ultimately, a studio has relented to his persuasion. In 2000, Schultz’s vision of having a casual dining restaurant and a movie theatre has started its way to the top. They are now serving high-quality food and screens Hollywood blockbuster hits.
In 2014, SMG was awarded by the Caruth Institute of Entrepreneurship as one of Dallas’ 100 Fastest-Growing Businesses. Schultz has also received various awards for his entrepreneurial accomplishments.

The most important concept that made SMG unique is having a complete meal and made-to-order food menu. Most cinemas serve contemporary theater fare, but it was not what SMG wanted to offer its customers.

Customers are encouraged to arrive 15-20 minutes early and they have the option to eat at the tables outside the theatre or they could bring the meals inside since each seat has a swinging table with sufficient leg room.
Four seating options are available depending on the viewer’s preference:
- Table A and B seats, which offer stationary chairs or desks.
- Lounge seats, which includes a tray table and bigger seating area.
- Counter-top seats, which are good for a group of people.
- Reclining lounge seat that also comes with a tray table.
The customers can also reserve seats in order to get the best sitting options. It also ensures their seats and they will not encounter problems such as showing up to a sold out show.
